Our journey, like many others, started during a world pandemic circa 2019. Eyal spiralled back into their fish-keeping hobby, and as our living room exploded with 7 tanks, and we wondered into our local fish & reptile store to add the inevitable 8th; We met Haim-Puff the bearded dragon.

PSA: If no one ever warned you, bearded dragons are the gateway to having 40 plus reptiles in your basement!

Fast forward a few years, a Uromastyx, a giant leaf tail gecko and a few more friends on repeat; we both met our first Acanthosaura Lepidogaster 'Red' (also known as the dwarf mountain dragon) and that’s how ‘the responsible reptile’ was born.

At The Responsible Reptile we aim to introduce newcomers and experienced keepers to a world of reptiles that focuses on responsible practices that benefit everyone involved:

the reptile, the proud new or experienced

owner & the environment.

We frown upon old school ideas like 'minimum tank size' and 'beginner reptiles'.

We live in 2026!

If you are committed to good husbandry, if you do the proper research - with modern technology and good will every reptile we offer is a beginner reptile.

We believe in finding the right match between reptile & owner above making a profit

Jesús - Uroplatus Fimbriatus Giant Leaf Tail Gecko - pet only

From inadequate and/or hard to find and conflicting information about terrarium sizes for adult and juvenile reptiles to misinformation about misting your bearded dragon once a day, misinformation about reptile care is, sadly, rampant

Personally, we cannot count the number of times we've asked the employee selling us our reptile for care-taking information only to be provided with wrong, on-the-spot information. These turn into bad habits!

But there's also so much conflicting information on the internet these days that when you want to research your next pet, you need to sieve through data for credible sources. This is confusing for even a well-versed reptile lover!

Enter The Responsible Reptile:

We operate under the premise that providing factual information about your new pet is just as crucial as selling you the pet itself. Let's dive into the relatively new hobby of pet reptiles together!

We stand behind the information we provide - we work hard to research the credibility of the reptiles we re-home!
